Context
What is PropLytics
PropLytics is a real estate investment tool that gathers and generates data from many sources allowing investors to make informed decisions when buy properties. This webapp focuses on ROI opportunities but also provides insights on local information, market developments and property value forecasting. The Webapp also has other supporting features like a property management tool providing insights on what is happening in and around users investments. It also offers an educational platform for new investors to learn how to enter the real estate market.
My Role
My job for this startup is Lead Founding Designer, I develop all the designs for the UI, UX and help with developing new features for users. I am tasked with developing a straightforward interface to help users navigate large amounts of data clearly, without overwhelming them and allow the data to be Actionable. The rapid pace at which startups work has limited some of what I can do, forcing me to build quickly, however, as the only designer I have put an effort into ensuring user functionality.
Approach
The approach I've adopted while working with PropLytics differs from previous projects. The agile and fast-paced nature of the environment has required me to quickly adapt and overcome challenges to prevent bottlenecks for the team. As the sole designer responsible for all UI and UX tasks, I've learned to work efficiently under tight deadlines. Being self-taught in Figma, I continuously balance designing with actively learning ways to optimize my workflow and master Figma more effectively. Although this sometimes leads to projects feeling rushed, the agile structure enables me to revisit and refine older designs regularly when introducing new features. This iterative process has greatly contributed to my growth as a designer, and continuously expanding my knowledge of Figma has empowered me to adopt more efficient design strategies.
Projects
Outcomes
Working with PropLytics has been my first experience collaborating within a large team in a professional setting. Engaging with such a diverse and talented group has significantly contributed to my growth as both a designer and an individual. Many valuable lessons have emerged from the projects I've participated in.
Communication – Being part of a team distributed across three continents and four time zones required me to adapt my communication style. Becoming proficient in using platforms such as Jira, Slack, Google Calendar, and other remote collaboration tools has been essential for staying connected with the team. Adjusting my schedule, setting realistic expectations, and optimizing my workflow have been crucial for maintaining accessibility and transparency, especially while balancing university commitments. Despite these challenges, I've successfully adapted and integrated effectively within my team.
Setting and Meeting Deadlines – Managing responsibilities in a fast-paced startup environment, completing a full-time degree, and continuing my self-directed learning in UI/UX design and Figma has presented significant challenges. To address these, I've learned to thoroughly understand my projects, set realistic timelines, and proactively communicate potential bottlenecks and delays.
Project Contribution – My role at PropLytics extends beyond design execution—I actively engage in innovation and push creative boundaries. When discussing projects with the development team, I regularly propose new features and enhancements. This collaborative approach has led to fresh, innovative product designs. Some proposals have been implemented, while others were adjusted or rejected due to practical limitations. I've learned the importance of balancing innovation with responsiveness to team constraints and practical development capabilities.
My experience at PropLytics has provided me with extensive personal and professional growth beyond what can be conveyed here. I've contributed to numerous other projects that I'm unable to showcase fully. If you're interested in learning more about my work with PropLytics, please feel free to reach out!
